This was a little holiday gift I made for my friends and family a few days before Christmas 2010. Thanks to Over The Rhine and all the other Cincinnati friends for communion, inspiration and "lyrics."

This shoe-string budget has come undone.

if I'm the only one.
Shadows follow me around.
Days are cold and nights are long.
I can see my breath and it scares me to death.
I shiver and hold on.
Strung out like the lights,

I get choked up on my prayer on
the darkest night of the year.
Am I mumbling in the dark?
Is anybody listening?
If so, let your halo glow,
let your angel eyes be a-glistening.
I've read the news.
It could be a lot worse.
Sometimes I feel joy
where it used to hurt.
I'm lit up like the lights.
I've had a few beers.
I get a little choked up on my prayer on
the darkest night of the year.
It's true I've been drinking and
away in a manger.
On a silent night,
